Courtesy of the Texans’ public relations staff, postgame notes from the Texans’ 21-9 victory over the Buffalo Bills at Reliant Stadium in Week 9:

THE WIN

· Improved Houston’s record to 7-1 this year, extending the best start to a season in franchise history.

· Evened Houston’s all-time record against Buffalo to 3-3 and gave the Texans their first win over Buffalo at Reliant Stadium.

· Improved Houston’s all-time record at Reliant Stadium to 43-42 in regular-season play.

· Improved Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s record to 54-50 overall and 33-20 at Reliant Stadium.

THE TEXANS OFFENSE

· Scored first for the fourth time this season.

· Won the time of possession battle for the eighth time this season, holding the ball for 34:03. Houston improved to 45-19 under head coach Gary Kubiak in such games.

· Held the ball for 11:29 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

· Outrushed the Bills, gaining 118 yards while allowing 78. The Texans improved to 6-0 this season and 43-15 under Kubiak when outrushing their opponents.

· Ran the ball 32 times in the game and improved to 39-5 under Kubiak when rushing 30 or more times.

· Did not turn the ball over for the fifth time this season and the second consecutive game.

· Led after one quarter for the fifth time this season, and led at halftime and after three quarters for the seventh time this year.

· Had a field goal blocked for the first time since 12/13/09 vs. Seattle when Buffalo DT Alex Carrington blocked K Shayne Graham’s 46-yard attempt in the second quarter.

THE TEXANS DEFENSE

· Did not allow an offensive touchdown for the second time this season. Houston also held Miami’s offense out of the end zone in Week 1 (9/9).

· Held Buffalo to nine points in the game. It marked the fifth game this season in which the Texans defense held its opponent to 14 points or fewer and the 14th time in 24 games under Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips.

· Limited Buffalo’s offense to 2-of-11 (18 percent) on third down in the game. It was the third time this season that Houston’s defense held its opponent below 20 percent on third downs and the fifth time Houston held its opponent below 30 percent.

· Did not allow Buffalo to score a touchdown on any of its three possessions inside the Houston 20-yard line. It marked the third game this season in which Houston held its opponent without a touchdown in the red zone.

· Helped Houston win the turnover battle for the sixth time this season, forcing one turnover while the offense did not commit a turnover. Houston has forced 14 turnovers through eight games this season.

· Forced Buffalo’s offense to go three-and-out on four of its 11 possessions. Houston has forced 29 three-and-out drives out of 97 total possessions (29.9 percent) this season.

OLB CONNOR BARWIN

· Registered his second sack of the season and his second in as many games when he tackled Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for a 1-yard loss in the second quarter. It marked the sixth time in his career that Barwin recorded sacks in back-to-back games.

FB JAMES CASEY

· Caught his 19th pass of the season on a gain of 24 yards in the second quarter, establishing a new career single-season high. He caught 18 passes a year ago. Casey finished the game with three catches, giving him 21 on the season.

TE OWEN DANIELS

· Extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 76 with a 7-yard catch in the first quarter.

· Tied a career high with his fifth touchdown catch of the season on a 39-yard pass from QB Matt Schaub in the first quarter. The touchdown was the 25th of Daniels’ career.

FS QUINTIN DEMPS

· Recovered a fumble for the first time in his career when he scooped up a loose ball late in the fourth quarter.

RB ARIAN FOSTER

· Scored a touchdown in his 10th consecutive game when he scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter. The touchdown was his 10th rushing touchdown of the season and gave him 10 or more rushing scores in three consecutive seasons.

· Topped 100 rushing yards for the 20th time in his career and the fourth time this season, ending the game with 111 yards on 24 carries with one touchdown. He passed the mark on a 19-yard gain in the fourth quarter. It was Foster’s first 100-yard game at Reliant Stadium this season.

TE GARRETT GRAHAM

· Scored his first career touchdown on a 5-yard pass from QB Matt Schaub in the fourth quarter.

K SHAYNE GRAHAM

· Saw his streak of 13 consecutive made field goals come to an end when his 46-yard attempt in the second quarter was blocked.

· Kicked his 350th career extra point following RB Arian Foster’s touchdown in the third quarter. Graham is 351-of-356 in his career on point-after tries following today’s game.

WR ANDRE JOHNSON

· Surpassed 100 receiving yards for the 40th time in his career and the second time this season, finishing with 118 yards on eight receptions. Johnson topped the century mark on an 18-yard catch in the fourth quarter.

· Passed Andre Rison (10,205) for 34th on the NFL’s all-time receiving yardage list. He entered the game needing 106 yards to pass Rison and did so on an 18-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

· Extended his franchise-record streak of consecutive games with a reception to 90 with a 13-yard catch in the first quarter.

FS SHILOH KEO

· Recovered a short kickoff to begin the game. It was his first career kickoff return.

WR KESHAWN MARTIN

· Returned a punt 26 yards in the third quarter. It was the longest return of his career and the second-longest of the season for the Texans, trailing a 36-yard return by WR Trindon Holliday in Week 2 at Jacksonville (9/16).

OLB WHITNEY MERCILUS

· Forced a fumble for the second consecutive game when he jarred the ball out of the arms of Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter.

· Registered his second sack in as many games when he dropped Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for a 2-yard loss on the final play of the game.

QB MATT SCHAUB

· Improved his record as the Texans’ starting quarterback to 39-33 overall and 24-12 at Reliant Stadium.

· Completed 19-of-27 passes for 268 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, giving him a passer rating of 126.8. It was his fifth game this season with a rating of better than 100.

· Threw his 11th touchdown pass of the season and the 109th of his career when he hit TE Owen Daniels for a 39-yard score in the first quarter.

· Tossed his second touchdown pass of the game when he hit TE Garrett Graham for a 5-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter. It was Schaub’s fourth game of the season with multiple touchdown passes.

WR KEVIN WALTER

· Started his 82nd game as a Texan, moving him past DE/OLB Mario Williams for fifth on the franchise’s all-time games started list.

DE J.J. WATT

· Sacked Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for a 6-yard loss in the second quarter, raising his season total to 10.5. Watt became the third Texans to record 10 or more sacks in a season, joining DE Mario Williams (14.0, 2007; 12.0, 2008) and OLB Connor Barwin (11.5, 2011).

· Became the 11th NFL player since 1982 to record 10 or more sacks and 10 or more passes defensed in a season.

MISCELLANEOUS STATS

· Total paid attendance was 71,698, which is the third-largest crowd for a regular-season game in franchise history. Houston has sold out all 109 home games, including preseason, regular season and postseason, in franchise history.

· Inactive players for the Texans included G Brandon Brooks, CB Roc Carmichael, T Andrew Gardner, CB Brandon Harris, NT Terrell McClain, RB Ben Tate and G Cody White.

· Captains for the Texans were ILB Tim Dobbins, WR Andre Johnson, QB Matt Schaub and DE Antonio Smith.

· The Texans won the toss and elected to receive.
