Here are the scenarios, as provided by the NFL:
Houston clinches a playoff berth with:
1) HOU win or tie OR
2) MIA loss or tie + PIT loss or tie OR
3) MIA loss or tie + CIN loss or tie OR
4) PIT loss + CIN loss
Last season, the Texans clinched the AFC South title in Week 14, marking their first-ever postseason trip.
If the playoffs started today, the Texans would have the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Baltimore Ravens (9-2) would be the No. 2 seed, followed by the New England Patriots (8-3), Denver Broncos (8-3), Indianapolis Colts (7-4) and Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5).
The Texans cannot clinch their division this week. Even if they win and improve to 11-1 and the Colts lose and fall to 7-5, both teams could still finish 11-5. The Texans and Colts play each other twice in the final three weeks of the season, and the Colts would win the division tiebreaker if they beat the Texans twice head-to-head.
