Comparing Texans’ 2012, 2011 rosters

Posted by Nick Scurfield on August 31, 2012 – 7:16 pm

The Texans reduced their roster from 75 to 53 on Friday by releasing 21 players and placing tackle Rashad Butler on injured reserve. Here’s a look at the number of players they kept by position, along with the number they kept at each position at this time in 2011:

Texans roster by position: 2012 total (2011 total)
QB:
3 (3)
RB: 3 (4)
FB: 2 (2)
WR: 6 (4)
TE: 2 (3)
OL: 9 (9)
DL: 6 (6)
LB: 9 (8)
DB: 10 (11)
K: 1 (1)
P: 1 (1)
LS: 1 (1)

A couple other notes:

  • Five players who were released by the Texans at this time last year made the team in 2012: ILB Mister Alexander, S Quintin Demps, T Andrew Gardner, WR/KR Trindon Holliday and S Shiloh Keo.
  • No undrafted rookies made the Texans’ roster in 2012 (OLB Bryan Braman was the lone undrafted rookie to make it in 2011). Of the 21 players released by the Texans on Friday, 15 were undrafted rookies.
