Linebacker Brian Cushing, guard Antoine Caldwell, wide receiver Trindon Holliday and nose tackle Hebron Fangupo did not participate in practice on Monday as the Texans started their third week of organized team activities (OTAs).
Cushing sat out with a sore knee and had an MRI. Coach Gary Kubiak said it was not a major concern.
“His knee’s a little sore, so I held him,” Kubiak said. “We may hold him a few days this week. We’ll be smart with anybody… I’m going to err on that side this time of year. We sent him down for an MRI. He did come down and watch practice. It gives some other guys a chance to get some reps.”
Caldwell, who has been practicing as the Texans’ starting right guard, was out with an illness. Holliday, who has caught Kubiak’s eye this offseason, has an ankle injury. He could miss the rest of the week.
“He got rolled up pretty good, his ankle, last week, but he has had a good, good OTAs,” Kubiak said. “He’s made progress.”
Fangupo, an undrafted rookie from BYU, injured his knee in the first practice of OTAs. Kubiak said he hopes Fangupo can return before the Texans finish their offseason practices.
Kubiak also said linebacker Darryl Sharpton, who is recovering from a 2011 quadriceps injury, looked “real close” to being ready to return as he ran on a side field on Monday.
