The Divisional Playoff participants not advancing to the conference championship games select 25th through 28th, based on reverse order of their standing. The Denver Broncos (8-8 regular season) pick 25th. The Texans (10-6) pick next, followed by the New Orleans Saints (13-3) and Green Bay Packers (15-1).
This is the lowest draft slot in Texans history. They previously picked 20th overall in 2010 after finishing 9-7. They actually traded down from 18th overall to 26th in 2008, using the pick to select left tackle Duane Brown, who has developed into one of the best young tackles in the NFL. Brown was named second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press this season and is an alternate for the Pro Bowl.
Other notable players drafted at No. 26 overall include linebacker Ray Lewis (1996), guard Allen Faneca (1998), cornerback Lito Sheppard (2002) and linebacker Clay Matthews (2009).
The 2012 draft kicks off in primetime on Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. CT.
