Report: Texans pursuing Leach, have company

Posted by Nick Scurfield on July 29, 2011 – 1:19 pm

According to Mark Berman of FOX 26 Sports, the Texans are one of five teams pursuing free agent fullback Vonta Leach.

Leach, a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler last season, has been with the Texans since 2006. Berman reports that the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and New York Giants also have expressed interest in signing the bruising lead blocker, who helped Arian Foster lead the league with 1,616 rushing yards in 2010.

“There are multiple teams expressing interest in Vonta,” Leach’s agent, Ralph Vitolo, told Berman. “We are still hopeful Vonta can return to the Texans, if at all possible.”

If the Texans do re-sign Leach, they’ll return essentially their entire offense from last season, when they ranked third in the league in yards per game.

Well, really I don’t care I want to see Vonta back with the Texans, that will be the end of a great work done so far on FA

I’m not sure where the Texans stand with cap room now, but Leach should be their next priority. Opposing defenses know that he is a force when he’s in the game. He helps both the running and passing game so much. I love Cassey and all, but Vonta’s departure would be a noticeable step down for the offense. If he gets too greedy though, then that’s on him. C’mon Vonta, work with us here. Trying to build a winner. Be part of that.
