Leach: Texans 1-2 players away from winning Super Bowl

Posted by Nick Scurfield on June 24, 2011 – 11:31 am

Fullback Vonta Leach, an impending unrestricted free agent, isn’t sure if he’ll be back with the Texans in 2011. But the 2010 first-team All-Pro will have high hopes for the Texans if he does.

“I think if I’m back here, my expectation (level) is higher,” Leach said on SportsTalk 790 AM this morning. “I’m thinking we are one or two guys from not even going to the playoffs but winning the whole thing. If you look around our locker room, we’ve got a lot of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball with Andre (Johnson), with (Matt) Schaub, with Owen Daniels, with D.A. (David Anderson), with (Arian) Foster, (Derrick) Ward – just to name a few. Our offensive linemen. All these guys dun’ played together for years and years. So there’s a lot of stuff that we have going on.

“Then you look at the defensive side of the ball, you’ve got DeMeco (Ryans) coming back. You’ve got a (Brian) Cushing. You’ve got a Mario (Williams). We’ve got so many people or so many guys that could be a help and that could come and take over a game at any time.”

As for his own future, Leach was asked whether his first choice is to re-sign with the Texans.

“I want to be here, but at the same time, I have to get my fair share that’s on the market,” he said. “There’s not going to be no hometown discount or nothing like that, but I do want to be here.”

Leach said that he’s influenced “a lot” by what people post on Twitter, where some Texans fans have campaigned for him to stay in Houston. He said that money won’t necessarily dictate where he signs.

“The money part is not all of it,” he said. “I want to go to a place also where I have a chance to win. You know, I’m coming up on year number eight. I dun’ been in the league, (and) a lot of people know what I can do. So I want to go to a team that has a chance to win and go to a Super Bowl. That’s what I want to do.”
