Texans fullback Vonta Leach has yet to make the Pro Bowl in his seven NFL seasons. Two of his most prominent teammates took it upon themselves on Wednesday to campaign for him in the locker room.
Wide receiver Andre Johnson, a four-time Pro Bowler, wore a “Send Leach to the Beach” T-shirt during his interview session with reporters.
“We are trying to get Vonta Leach over to Hawaii, so I need everybody to go to NFL.com and vote for Vonta Leach and send him to Hawaii,” Johnson said. “I think he deserves it.”
Leach (6-0, 255) has eight catches for 91 yards this season. More importantly, he plays an instrumental role in the Texans’ running game as the lead blocker for Arian Foster. Foster leads the league with 1,330 rushing yards and is averaging 5.0 yards per carry.
“Please go out and vote, because he deserves it, man,” Foster said, imploring fans through the media. “He’s been putting in work in this league for a long time, and it’s just now starting to get noticed. He deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. He’s, in my opinion, the best blocking fullback in this league, and he has hands out of the backfield. He’s always consistent. He does his job. He deserves to go.”
